Absolutely! The generation change in 1995. It took a few years to sink in , but a lot left or went inactive in the following five years as a result of the 1995 generation change.

What happened in 97-98 to reduce the increase?

centerton police arrested a man accused of firing close to 19 rounds at a group of jehovahs witnesses on saturday (sept. 28th).
john baldwin, 35, bonded out on $50,000 sunday morning.. according to a probable cause affidavit, three jehovahs witnesses approached baldwin in his front yard at rainbow farm road and baldwin told them, get your (explicit) off my property, i moved out here to get away from people like you.. the report states the jehovahs witnesses apologized and as they were getting in their car one of them heard get me my 9.. baldwin admitted to firing a gun at three jehovahs witnesses when they drove away from his house, according to the report.. baldwin was booked into benton county jail on felony charges of aggravated assault.. several of baldwins neighbors said he moved to the neighborhood less than a month ago.. kristi tidwell who lives nearby said she was home when police arrived at her neighbors home.. my husband and i were working around the house, we had the blinds open in the back we saw probably seven or eight cop cars pulling in there, tidwell said.

I made a huge mistake

next saturday is our anniversary.

Whatever you do, don't apologize or say, 'my bad' because he treated you ill. If he treats you ill it's because of him, not because of you. He gotta respect your choices. Because he's just gone back to jws he's v gung ho about 'contamination' but give it time, it'll ease up n he'll become less uptight about it. I know because I was the jw in a close knit non jw family for over a decade. Stand your ground in a respectful way, and let him work himself out. I suppose he just went back for family?

A major change in the new song book I initially overlooked
by slimboyfat init occurred to me the other day that i am beginning to forget the tunes to all the old kingdom songs i once knew by heart.
so i have started recording myself singing a few of my favourites from the old song book and uploading them to youtube.
and it struck me as i was singing them how many of the old songs have a military theme running through them, with references to warfare, soldiers, weapons and so on.

They've changed some of the terminology and got a case of chronic 8th notes, but a big change has been to make the songs more about obedience. The tunes are not as catchy or melodic anymore.

And no one would look at them anyway. in Sydney almost anywhere you go in the city there is someone trying to solicit this, sign you up for that or give you some pamphlets or fliers. They're everywhere, especially in Central station and that so jw rubbish is just one more thing to walk by quickly and ignore.

Head coverings yet again in the latest KM
by life is to short inmy husband just gave me the latest km the novermber 2013 and it yet again has a question box on head coverings.. question box "should a female publisher wear a head covering if she is accompanied by a male pubisher at a doorstep bible study?".
it says "when a female publisher conducts a reagular, scheduled bible study and a male kingdom publisher is present, she should wear a head covering.
(1 cor 11: 3-10) the july 15 2002, issue of the watchtower page 27, explains: "this is a prearranged session of teaching where the one conducting the the study actually presides.

And the more they split hairs like whether you're demonstrating the study, conducting the study for the second or third time, wearing a wig, who you have with you, what the weather is like that day, the more people will go, WTF? Such mad levels of control in a person's life is bound to make them feel that something is seriously wrong with this religion.

When did Theology Last add something to Human Knowledge?
by cofty into illustrate my question.... i am watching an episode of the australian tv program "q & a" on youtube.
the panel includes the brilliant laurence krauss, gay bishop gene robinson, the woefully ignorant and bigoted rev fred nile and a few others.. the early questions put gene robinson under the spotlight and to be fair he comes across as a loving, compassionate, intelligent and - in his own words - "fabulous" person.
by contrast the reverend nile is a caricature of everything that is dispicable and hateful about theism.. a self-righteous young man in the audience asks gene how he deals with the bible's condemnation of homosexuality.

I see theism through a different lense. I see the nt as a collection of religious writings that do have some benefits such as even though I don't believe in it as god inspired, I still live by its lessons like forgiveness, charity and thinking of others. It is, whether you believe in it or not, a part of western literary canon like Hamlet, and like Hamlet or Macbeth, carries moral lessons.
To answer your question therefore about contributing to knowledge, well no, theism does not contribute to scientific knowledge. But it does, in the form of religious texts irrespective of whether you believe or not, carry literary, social, cultural and historical value. Science, no. The bible has been inimical to the increase in scientific knowledge, but still has value in other ways.
So yes, as an atheist I was a jerk. That's not because of atheism itself, it was because I was young and selfish and thought myself accountable to no one. Then believing the bible taught me some good lessons in being a better person. Now I don't believe in the bible anymore, but still live by values such as kindness and honesty. It gave me some direction at the time, and now I'm a more mature agnostic evolution belief type. that is my personal journey and how some sort of theism can have some value some of the time, in a non-knowledge body way.
